]]> I’ve just downloaded and tested BlogDesk after a recommendation from the good Rasmus Sørensen. It may just be the offline blogging client I’ve been looking for, as this client lets me populate the excerpt field in WordPress. So far I’ve tried out 5-6 clients, including ScribeFire for Firefox. So I decided to write this review/test of BlogDesk.

Installation is straight forward and adding account is hassle free and the interface is nice and clean.

The only thing I miss is an option for adding tags and a button for blockquotes.

BlogDesk supports all major blogging tools:

BlogDesk is totaly free of charge and optimized for the blog systems WordPress, MovableType, Drupal, Serendipity and ExpressionEngine as well as the bloghosters Blogg.de and Twoday.net.

]]> I often stumble upon things on the interent, that I’d like to comment. More often than not, my comments are on poor usability, clumsy design or other web annoyances. These are often easiest to document and comment via screendumps, but the process of taking a screendump, cropping it, saving it, uploading it and putting it in the blog often hampers the immidiacy of a good blog post.
Adressing that problem I combined 1) Gadwin PrintScreen (that lets you screendump specific areas of your screen), with my flickr account and the 2) Flickr Uploadr – a tool that lets you drag and drop images for uploading. Finally, to get the image to appear in your blog (in my case WordPress), there are several plugins that allows you to easily insert your flickr images in blog posts (in my case WordPress Flickr Post Bar).

The trick is to tell Gadwin to open screendumped images with the Flickr Uploadr – see below example:

Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds, which will be checked frequently for new content. This means that Blog Search results for a given blog will update with new content much faster than standard web searches. Also, because of the structured data within site feeds, it is possible to find precise posts and date ranges with much greater accuracy.

Now both issues seem to be disappearing; well, in lesser degree the time issue – but I’ve never had the luxury of having too much time to do with, anyway.
Well, to the main point of this post (please notice how slowly I am getting to the point. It was not a deliberate act, but as I point it out now the litterate reader may identify this prolonged intro as a cunning means of suspension…) – the wordpress theme browser by alex king. A really useful tool for selecting your theme for wordpress! Download, upload, tweak and tadaa… Now I hope for the expertize from Don Barslund to implement threaded comments and that nifty graphical blog-spam killer (can’t remember the name…).
