Pitfalls of power point

I have earlier described some of the pitfalls in working with power point. Today I fell upon this presentation of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Adress.
The presentation is a good exampleof what happens when the brave new world of technology is embraced uncritically. The main point here could be: use IT – but use it only if it positively enhances/adds to your communication.
The author has a making of the presentation and also links to an essay on the darker sides of the use of power point.
A short quote from the essay clearly makes the point:

And it is certainly a shame when a potentially interesting presentation is dumbed down by another formulaic over-application of PowerPoint. But when PowerPoint leads not just to boredom but to bad decisions, it is a tragedy, not just a shame.

These artefacts are from 2001 – when I still studied rhetorics. I wish I had seen this then. Responsible use of IT in modern communication is a subject that still needs attention…
Which also reminds me that I hate thoughtless use of flash and java!
