I dag er Refugees United så centrum for ‘Bloggers Unite’ – et kommunikativt kraftcenter, der rekrutterer bloggere til at skabe omtale om relevante initiativer for menneskerettigheder og medmenneskelighed.

These are exciting times for SETI@home. Last year we implemented a new SETI@home data recorder at the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. This recorder is attached to a state-of-the-art multibeam receiver, so we can now measure signals from 7 positions on the sky at once, with greater sensitivity to weak signals compared to the data from the flat feed antenna we’ve used since 1999. We’ve greatly increased the sensitivity of our data analysis, and the likelihood that we’ll find the first signs of extraterrestrial life. We’re also close to releasing a second application, Astropulse, which will look for extremely short pulses of astronomical (and possibly intelligent) origin.

With these new developments comes an increase in required computing power, for which we depend on people like you. We hope you will consider signing back on with SETI@home, and help in this wonderful scientific venture.

4. It’s been 516 days and there is still no eyecandy, no blog support, no nothing – no wait – there’s a Facebook application -  *nice*…

I just upgraded to 2.5 – I seem to belong to the 50% of WordPress users that actually like the new admin interface.
Upgrading was flawless and I then decided to restructure my permalinks – hopefully the Redirection-plugin along with pinging Google Sitemaps will save my poor 404 page from the worst heat. Otherwise – please bear with me until Google figures out what happened.

So, what are the more concrete implications of this?
Well, looking at my own permalinks (that have annoyed me for some time now) – I now have another reason for skipping those non-semantical parts of the permalink: http://blog.heick.nu/archives/2008/04/. That’s 38 characters right there – and I can be pretty damn sure that any link from this blog posted on Twitter is going to be tinyurlified…
Still even if I (when) change my permalinks to the shortest possible form: http://blog.heick.nu/%postname% – I only have 10 chars to do with.
In any case – In the future, I might just start shortening my urls to make them Twitter-friendly…

I then tried upgrading to the recent beta of Firefox 3, but none of my extensions worked there, so back to my buggy Firefox again.

What about your Firefox – unstable. What did you do?

Woopra is the latest player on the scene and in the words of Techcrunch is ‘Google Analytics or Nuconomy, but in real time…’ – sounds good to me…
(update: Woopra is currently invitation-only)

Google Analytics is probably one of the biggest players in the market. Analytics has a really nice flashy (flex?) interface, but has a 1 day delay on traffic data.

Nuconomy

is designed to consider the impact of widgets, Ajax, Flash, mobile, etc., which don’t generally show up in page view metrics. And they are also measuring everything on both a contributor level (think analytics by author in a blog) and user level (people on the site).

Clicky has a nice web2.0′ish interface, and data in real time. There is a basic free account with a limit of 3 sites to track and a pro account with bells and whistles.

Statcounter has a more traditionally looking interface, but data here is also real time.

GoStats has an nice and clean interface that looks like a blend of Clicky and statcounter.

Bonus info:
If you use Greasemonkey, Joost de Valk has a really nice greaseMonkey statistics detector that gives you an idea of how and when you are being tracked.

I’m on a mix of Analytics, Statcounter and Woopra.
