Finished Half Life 2

Well, I guess I finished HL2 – I didn’t quite understand the ending, but I killed the boss monster, then a man (supposedly the G-man) spoke to me and then came the end titles… Hell, even Lars von Trier makes better endings than that.

Get a Grip, Pia

The Danish People’s Party (DF) have come up with a proposal that any information sent out from the government, administration or big companies, must be in english. The aim is undoubtedly to target imigrants and fugitives that recieve a great deal odf information in their own languages. The idea is that the foreigners will be more inclined to learn danish…
I wonder then, if DF as a gesture will close down their english version of their site?
I just realized that DF versions of their program in several languages – arabic, turkish, and hebrew to mention just a few…

mettebau.dk

Mettes weblog is online again – it has been down a couple of months because I tampered with the installation files attempting an upgrade ;-)
I had some problems with th fact that I had to do a new wordpress install on an existing database. It was almost not a problem! I uploaded a full installation, installed a ‘dummy’ weblog. Then I filled Mettes database details in the wp-config.php and ran /wp-admin/upgrade.php

And so it was done!

Half life 2 Usability’

I really like playing HL2, but the installation and upgrading prcesses are hopeless. A couple of minutes ago I started HL2 up – the game starts to download upgrades and whatnot. Get a grip and install the upgrades AFTER I finish playing! Microsoft has gotten the idea – the upgrades to windows are installed when you shut down – give me a notice that there are upgrades waiting and let med start playing. How hard can that be?

wisening

Venturing into a professional field, that to some extent is unknown to me, I experience a lot of instances where I have to ask stupid questions in order to get smarter.
There is a reciprocicality in this proces that amuses me; having to appear stupid in order to achieve knowledge is not always comforting. :-)

Announcement

I have a job!
As of the 3. of January I am officially hired as a copywriter in the visionary and competent company Notabene.net. Initially my main task is to write texts that are appealing to as well google as real people. Later on I’ll be teaching the craft of writing SEO texts (See wikipedia on SEO for a more exhausting description.).
I am really thrilled with the opportunity to work in a field that requires as well my rhetorical skills as my interrest in internet technologies.

I am a bit lenient to blog to extensively on my findings at work – it might compromize my loyalty towards Notabene.net. I Still get a lot of inputs and new ideas, though – and that will continue to appear in this fantastic weblog.

Calendar candles

In Denmark the use of calendar candles is closely connected to the month of December – but why not make a 2005-pack of calendar candles? I may contact Mayland and sell the idea – somehow they haven’t come up with the idea yet…
I think the concept works best with 12 candles sporting monthly labels and corresponding numbers of days; maybe even color-coded according to season.
